Have you ever been so comfortable in your current state that when something unexpected gets in the way, you freak out?

Lately I’ve realized that I haven’t been making as much artwork as I normally do and I had to sit down and figure out what’s going on. Why haven’t I been making my pieces?

I love creating my images outdoors. I am definitely in my element when I am running in a forest or exploring the desert because I get so inspired and excited with the things that are around me.

I can create so many stories and so many different themes when I am surrounded by mother nature that my mind just takes off and goes wild!

However since I live in New York where majority of the weather is cold and snow, I barely go outdoors to take my photos. And when I do, I end up freezing and getting sick from standing outside in the snow.

Which makes me resort to having to make my work indoors…and that was something I didn’t want to do.

Why? I couldn’t come up with anything ideas that I could work with in my studio. So I kept delaying and postponing my indoor images and thought to myself “Oh crap do I have to wait for next spring to create work, this isn’t good!”.

Then it hit me!

I was so afraid of taking indoor images that I just stopped my work completely! It was something that was completely out of my comfort zone and I didn’t want to take part in it…but here’s the thing.

If you stay in your comfortable zone, you will never reach your goals.

Jim Carrey held an incredible speech at the Maharishi University 2014 Commencement Ceremony about this exact moment I had and it literally blew me away:

My father could’ve been a great comedian but he didn’t believe that was possible for him. And so he made a conservative choice. Instead he got a safe job as an accountant and when I was twelve years old, he was let go of that safe job and our family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which is that you can fail at what you don’t want…so might as well take a chance at doing what you love.

So I’m breaking out the studio lights and starting on some indoor art images. Stay tuned!!

Now it’s your time to shine!

How can you take a leap and get out of your comfort zone? What scares you that it’s holding you back from taking the extra step? The best discussions and support happen in the comments!

Til next time – keep creating,
